OPPORTUNITY

The PMI identifies opportunities from a broad spectrum of disease and preventative care in consultation with patients and healthcare practitioners. Opportunities are aimed at producing outcomes that justify broader integration into the healthcare system and selected from validated advances worldwide as well as from ongoing initiatives locally. The PMI will also work with global technology, pharmaceutical or diagnostic companies to assist in the translation of the products. Initiatives are prioritized on the basis of unmet medical need, cost savings and tractability and must meet five criteria: targets medical problems of great relevance; provides solutions that can be delivered equitably; has capacity to improve quality of care, cost effectiveness and the patient caregiver experience; meets scientific criteria for excellence; builds from local strengths to secure global leadership in personalized medicine.

PLANNING

Opportunities are developed into projects through the PMI planning stage. Project staff and facilities are resourced from existing technological, clinical testing, and population delivery infrastructure. The PMI secures funding sourced from pharmaceutical companies, philanthropic, government, and granting agencies. To support this early-stage development, the PMI provides project managers and prepares business and team project plans. An extensive network of partners and entities that have the requisite expertise and resources offer advice on forming effective business strategies. For example, the PMI collaborates with major representatives of biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, such as Merck, Roche, and Pfizer.

YOU

Delivery of benefits to individuals, families, communities and populations through the healthcare system is the only way to realize the potential of personalized medicine. The PMI delivers improved clinical practice, health outcomes and healthcare experiences while contributing to a more sustainable cost-effective healthcare system. The real benefits of personalized medicine will be through the aggregate individual improvements offered by such specific healthcare interventions and information, the bringing of high quality, deep content data to all healthcare interactions as well as to system and population interventions. The PMI continues to identify Lead Communities and expands the collaborative platform for the implementation of personalized medicine technologies in an assessable (economic and health outcome) and scalable manner.
